Step by step
- Go to Customers & machines › Meters & toner and press Ask a customer for readings at the top right, or press Ask for meter readings on the customer page. A side panel opens (with the customer already chosen when you came from the customer page).
- Choose the Customer.
- Choose a Site, or leave All sites to cover every machine of the customer.
- Enter Email the link to to have it emailed, or leave it empty to copy the link yourself.
- Optionally set Needed by (optional).
- Press Make request.
What happens next
With an email address, you see "Emailed to …". Without one, "Request made. Copy its link below and send it to the customer." Use Open the requests list → and Copy link on the Requests tab.
The customer opens the link, sees their machines and meters and types the figures. Good readings are saved on the machines; doubtful ones wait on the To check tab.
When everything is in, the request shows All readings in with the date.
If it is refused
"no machines with meters for this customer": add machines (with meters) first.
"site does not belong to the customer": choose a site of the chosen customer.
If the email fails you see "The email was not sent: … Copy the link and send it yourself."
Ideas to try

- Copy or email a reading request againCopy an open request's link, or email it (again) to the address on the request.
- Cancel a reading requestStop an open reading link from working, for example if it went to the wrong person.
- Check held readingsApprove, correct or reject meter readings that looked wrong, before they reach a bill.
- Contract billingEach period: calculate a run for the dates, fix flagged lines, finalise, then create the invoices. The same dates can never be billed twice.
