Open a printer's own web page from SubClik

The printer's own settings pages (address book, scan settings, network, logs, counters) open in a new tab through the SubClik agent at the customer, as if you were on their network. No VPN, no remote desktop.

Where: Printers & agents › a printer › Status; engineer app › a job › Printer monitoringFor Owners, admins, dispatchers, engineers

Step by step

  1. Open the printer in Printers & agents (or, as an engineer, the job on that machine) and press Open the printer's web page.
  2. A new tab opens on the printer's page. The first page can take up to a minute while the agent at the customer connects; after that each page takes about a second.
  3. Sign in with the printer's own admin password when the printer asks for it, as you would on site. SubClik does not keep it.
  4. Close the tab when you are done. The session ends by itself after 30 minutes without use (2 hours at most).

Who can open it

Owners, admins and dispatchers: any printer of the firm. An engineer: only a printer whose machine is on one of their open jobs; when the job closes, the page closes. Customer portal logins: never.

The office can turn it off for a customer: the customer › Details › Printer web pages. Open pages of that customer close at once. Every opening is kept in the audit log, with who opened which printer.

What it needs

A Windows agent at the customer that is on and in touch (a SubClik Box cannot do this yet), and the printer on its local network. Agents update themselves; an older one says so on the button.

Only the printer's web ports (80, 443, 8000, 8080, 8443 and 50443) on a local network address can be reached: the agent cannot be used to reach anything else.

Privacy and safety

The page opens on a separate web address, not on the portal's own address, so the printer's page can never reach your SubClik sign-in.

What you type into the printer's page (including its admin password) passes through SubClik to the agent and is deleted as soon as the printer answers; nothing of the pages is stored.

Files over 3 MB (some log or address book exports) cannot be downloaded this way.

The machine's panel screen (Konica Minolta)

Konica Minolta machines can show their touch screen in a browser. Switch it on once on the machine (or in its web page): Network › Remote Panel Settings › Remote Panel Server Settings › Server Settings: ON (port 50443). A password or IP filter set there still applies.

Then the printer's page in SubClik shows Panel screen: the live touch screen opens in a new tab and what you press there is pressed on the machine, as if you were standing at it. It closes like any printer page (30 minutes without use, or when the job closes).

Only one person can use the machine's remote panel at a time; someone at the machine sees what you do.

Other makes' panel screen

Sharp, Toshiba and Kyocera, and some Konica Minolta models, show the panel through a remote-operation (VNC) connection, usually approved on the machine's own screen. SubClik does not relay that yet.

HP shows a Remote Control Panel inside its own web page when it is turned on in the printer; whether it works through SubClik depends on the model.
