SNMPv3 users for secure networks

When the customer's IT has turned off SNMP v1/v2c on the printers, enter the SNMPv3 users set on the printers so the agent or Box can still read them.

Where: Customers & machines › Printers & agents › Agents tab › Settings and actions › SNMPv3 (secure networks)For Owners, admins, dispatchers

Step by step

  1. Get the SNMPv3 user name, authentication protocol and password, encryption protocol and password from the customer's IT (as set on the printers).
  2. On the Agents tab, open Settings and actions under the agent and find SNMPv3 (secure networks).
  3. In User 1 fill in User name, choose Authentication (SHA, SHA256, SHA512, SHA384, SHA224, MD5 or None) and type the Authentication password (8–64 characters).
  4. Choose Encryption (None, AES-128, AES-256, AES-192, the Cisco / Reeder key variants, or DES for old printers) and type the Encryption password.
  5. Leave Context (usually empty) empty unless IT says otherwise.
  6. Add up to three users. Press Save SNMPv3.

Good to know

Users are tried before the communities.

Passwords are never shown again; the field says saved. Leave it empty to keep the saved one.

To remove a user, clear its user name and save.

The agent uses it from its next contact (within an hour; a SubClik Box within 10 minutes).

A SubClik Box supports SHA, SHA-2 and MD5 with AES. Printers that need DES encryption must be read by the Windows agent.
