Messages in the engineer app

Chat with the office and your colleagues, like WhatsApp: a team chat for everyone, a chat per job, and one-to-one chats. Photos and files can be sent in any chat.

The chat list

Chats lists your chats with unread counts: Everyone at your firm (the team chat) pinned at the top, then job chats and one-to-one chats, newest first.

Search chats and people finds a chat or a colleague. New chat opens the list of people: tap a name to start.

Archived (n) at the bottom holds chats you archived and the chats of jobs that are completed, invoiced or cancelled (they move there as soon as the job closes). You can still open them. A new message brings a chat back.

The Messages tab shows a red number while you have unread messages, and a pop-up appears when a message arrives while you are elsewhere in the app.

In a chat

Type in the Message box and tap Send. Tap Add a photo or file to send a photo or file (photo, PDF, Word, Excel or text, 25 MB at most).

One tick means sent, two blue ticks mean read. The ticks update by themselves while the chat is open.

Tap a message (or press and hold it) for its menu: Copy text, Open photo, Download and, for your own messages, Delete.

The ⋯ button at the top (Chat options) shows who is in the chat, Open job in a job chat, and Archive chat. The back arrow returns to the list.

Questions

Who can see a job chat?

The office and the engineer assigned to that job. If the job moves to another engineer, they see it instead of you.

Can I delete a message?

Yes, your own messages: tap the message, choose Delete and confirm Delete for everyone?.

How do I get notifications?

Tap Turn on notifications under the chat list and allow them when the phone asks.

Does chat work without signal?

No. Messages need signal. Notes and job changes in the finish steps can wait on the phone; chat cannot.
