Before you lose signal
Open My jobs while you have good signal. Your open jobs, your last completed jobs and your calendar are saved on the phone in the background (refreshed at most every 15 minutes, not on very slow connections or data saver). Any job you open is saved too.
Add the app to your home screen (in the browser: Add to Home Screen). Opening it from the icon without signal shows your saved jobs, not an error page; so does refreshing the page.
What works without signal
Status buttons (accept, on my way, arrived, start work), your answer to Parts for this job (on the van / not got them), the whole Finish job flow (work done, checklist, parts used and removed, meter readings, needed parts, parts required, signature, complete), and Take or add photos.
Each change is saved with the time you made it, so travel and labour times stay correct.
What needs signal
Can't take this job, Save machine, Mileage, Today's mileage, Note to office, Attach a file, adding a missing meter, emailing the job sheet, the calendar and chat.
The bar at the top
Amber, "No signal. N changes saved on this phone; they are sent automatically when you are back online."
Blue, "Waiting to send N changes saved offline…" or "Sending…" once signal is back.
Red, "Not saved: …" when the office refused a change. See "A change was not saved".
Amber, "Not applied: …" when the office had already changed the job. See "A change was not applied".
The bar disappears when everything is sent.
How catching up works
Changes are sent oldest first, in the order you made them, when signal returns, when you reopen the app, and every 30 seconds while it is open. Each change is applied once even if it is sent twice.
Changes older than 72 hours are refused: "This offline change is more than 72 hours old. Ask the office to record it."
A job you completed offline stays in My jobs, marked "Finished on this phone · sends when you have signal", until it reaches the office.
Tips
- Open the app once with signal before you go into a basement or plant room.
- Keep the app open (or reopen it) once you are back in signal so the changes go.
- Do not sign out or clear the browser while changes are waiting.
Questions
Will I lose my work if the battery dies?
No. Changes are stored on the phone, not just in the open page. They are sent the next time you open the app with signal.
Can I open a job I have never opened before without signal?
Only if it was saved in the background while you had signal. Open My jobs each morning with signal to be safe.
The office changed the job while I was offline. What happens?
Your change is not applied over theirs. It is passed to the office on the job page, and you see "Not applied" on your phone.
Are the times right if I tapped buttons offline?
Yes. Each tap keeps the time you made it (as long as the phone clock is right).
How long can changes wait on the phone?
Up to 72 hours. After that the office has to record them.
Works together with
- A change was not saved: try again or discardIf the office refuses a change sent from the phone, a red bar shows what and why. Sending stops there so the order is kept, until you try again or discard it.
- A change was not applied because the office got there firstIf the office reassigned or updated a job while your change waited on the phone, your change is not applied over theirs. It is passed to the office instead, and you see an amber note.
- Changes saved by another account on this phoneIf someone else used this phone (or you switched firm) and left unsent changes, a grey note says so. They are sent when that account signs in here again.
- Sign out of the engineer appSign out at the top right. If changes made without signal have not reached the office yet, you are warned first, and they stay safe on the phone.
- A job on the phone, from accept to sign-offEverything for one visit on one screen: the big button for the next step (accept, on my way, start work, finish), the fault, contact, directions, photos, mileage, notes and machine history.
